At Vandalia Youth Theatre, we believe theatre has the power to do more than entertain. It builds confidence, sparks creativity, creates friendships, and gives young people a place where they can belong.
Since 1993, Vandalia Youth Theatre (VYT) has provided safe, nurturing, and exceptional theatre experiences for young people throughout our community. From a child's first time stepping onto a stage to a graduating senior taking their final bow, we create opportunities that challenge, encourage, and celebrate every young performer.
Our mission is to provide safe, nurturing, and exceptional theatre experiences that foster creativity and personal development in youth. At the heart of everything we do are our values of creativity, excellence, and inclusion for all.
From a Church Basement
to a Thriving Theatre Community
VYT was founded in 1993 by Kathy Price, who started the program because of her daughter's love of performing. Elda Ash became VYT's first official director, working with students in the basements of local fellowship spaces.
The organization's first musical, How Does Your Garden Grow?, featured just 12 students. It was a small beginning—but the start of something much bigger.
As more families discovered VYT, the organization continued to grow. In 1997, VYT established its first Board of Directors, laying the foundation for the nonprofit organization it would become.
More than three decades later, VYT has grown from those first 12 performers into a thriving theatre community serving students from kindergarten through high school. The productions have grown, the stages have gotten bigger, and generations of young performers have now taken their bows.
But the heart of VYT remains much the same as it was in 1994: giving young people a place to belong, the courage to grow, and the opportunity to shine.

Every Child Has a Place Here
VYT is built on the belief that youth theatre should be about more than discovering the strongest singer, dancer, or actor. It should help every young person discover what they are capable of.
Our productions bring together students with a wide range of experience—from first-time performers to seasoned actors preparing for their next challenge. Along the way, they learn much more than acting, singing, and dancing.
They learn teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance. They find their voices, build confidence, form friendships, and experience the pride of contributing to something bigger than themselves.
Every role matters. Every student contributes. And every child deserves the opportunity to shine.
What We Offer
VYT provides opportunities designed to grow with our students.
Workshops
Throughout the year, VYT offers workshops that allow new and returning students to explore theatre, develop skills, prepare for auditions, and grow as performers.
Summer Season
Summer is the heart of the VYT season, serving students from kindergarten through high school through age-appropriate cast divisions. Students develop their productions through acting, music, choreography, and rehearsal before bringing it all together for fully staged performances.
Fall Season
Our fall season provides additional production opportunities for students in grades 4–12, giving them another chance to perform, challenge themselves, build relationships, and continue developing their skills.

Vandalia Youth Theatre would not exist without the extraordinary community surrounding our students.
Directors, designers, educators, board members, families, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners contribute their time, talents, resources, and support to make these experiences possible.
Behind every performance are countless hours spent teaching, building sets, sewing costumes, creating props, organizing volunteers, encouraging students, and transforming an empty stage into another world.
Our students don't simply participate in a show. They become part of a community creating something remarkable together.

As VYT looks toward the future, we're committed to creating even more opportunities for young people to learn, perform, explore, and find their place in our theatre community.
Because the result is much more than a musical.
It's a child overcoming the fear of auditioning.
It's a student discovering they can sing, dance, lead, create, or make people laugh.
It's an older performer encouraging a younger castmate.
It's friendships formed backstage and families cheering from the audience.
And it's a graduating senior standing onstage for one final VYT bow, knowing they grew up as part of something special.
There are many ways for young performers to find their place at VYT—whether they're ready for a full production or simply want to explore something new.
